Simon Burley, co-author of the first British superhero roleplaying game (Golden Heroes) will be running playtest sessions of his latest set of superhero roleplaying rules (Squadron UK (2nd Edition)) at Con-Quest this year.

Both morning and afternoon sessions will allow players to create their own unique Heroes who will be thrown head-first into a city-wide mystery. Action packed but needing as much brains as brawn to save the day. Additionally, if any players want to “carry over” into the afternoon slot – Simon does have alternative adventures…

Roman rule has ended in Britain, and the country is divided into quarreling petty kingdoms which are in conflict with each-other as much as they are with the Saxon invaders. The once magnificent provincial capital of Londinium has been abandoned and is surrounded by Saxon lands, though the Saxons themselves, it is said, fear to inhabit the city.

The heroes are highly placed and trusted retainers of King Einion of Ebrauc, whose only son is critically ill, and, it is believed, cursed. They have heard tell that Londinium is the hiding place of the Cauldron of Dirrnach, one of the Thirteen Treasures of Britain, and famed for it’s healing powers. Can the heroes retrieve it to help the king’s son?

Maximum Number of Players: 5

” Set sail with another 5 salty gobbs for Death Island in search of fabled treasure! “

You are a mighty goblin pirate. Nobody dares cross your path in the Dark Sea, as you cut a path of villainy across the ocean, except for the dreaded orcs, the undead, other gobbo pirates, and a Walrus named Mike. Nevertheless, you are feared by someone, somewhere, maybe, um no. If you could just find the Lost Treasure Of The Golden Mimic it would all change ? Your peers would look up to you, just before you unleashed its power upon them, and consumed their souls HEHEHEEHEE… ooops, keep that bit quiet eh ?

Months ago, you sent out your snotling spy network, which mainly found out about your peers also having a snotling spy network, and they all came back with a separate piece of information, mostly trapped between the dismembered limbs of other rival snotlings, in other words ‘many Snotlings died to bring you this information’, about the Golden Mimic. You sought out your peers, and again, many Snotlings later, you reached an uneasy alliance with your five ‘partners’, but still had no clue as to location.

Until this windswept evening, when a foreboding shape cast its shadow over the harbour in Seven Squigs Bay, (no, not the local Ogre rock throwing team), but a warship named the ‘Black Dragon’, captained by Dread Marley, a vampire pirate of some renown. He claimed to know the location of Death Island, whereon is said to lie the Golden Mimic itself ! He made a proposal you couldn’t refuse, which involved either going to the island with him; and finding the treasure; or giving up a life threatening quantity of blood. He has guaranteed that everyone will get an equal share, of ‘what they so richly deserve, MHAHAHAHAHA’.

So, it’s time to scrub the decks, keelhaul a random passerby, splice the mainbrace, walk the plank onto the ship, and set sail for Death Island ! Arrrrrrrrrrrr !
